William E.
Reed
Apr 21, 1934 — May 6, 2023
William (Bill) E. Reed, of Kerrville, Texas passed away peacefully in his home on May 6, 2023.
Bill was born on April 21, 1934, in Rosenberg, Texas, to William E. Reed, Sr. and Corriene Rude Reed. He graduated from Lamar High School in Rosenberg, then attended Wharton Junior College and completed his Bachelor of Science degree at The University of Texas at Austin. While in college, Bill married Sally Mays, and together they raised three children, Randy, Rhett, and Robbe.
After college, Bill spent the next forty years as a dedicated educator, mentor, and school administrator helping young people pursue their dreams. He began his career in Alvin, Texas, where he worked as a teacher, school bus driver and coach. After obtaining a master's degree in education, he moved into administration and became the principal of Alvin High School. Following his 20-year career in the Alvin School System, he relocated and became principal of Goliad High School. Bill married his second wife, Kathy, and they later moved to The Woodlands where he became principal of Willis High School. Bill closed his long forty-year career in education with a move to Kerrville where he served as the principal of Tivy High School.
Bill was an athlete and an avid sports fan. In college, he lettered in basketball at both Wharton Junior College and The University of Texas at Austin. He also enjoyed golf and, throughout his life, found ways to spend time out on the course. In Kerrville, where he was often referred to as "Coach," even after he retired, he continued to attend and follow the Tivy Antlers basketball team. He was also a devoted lifelong Texas Longhorns fan.
After retirement he and Kathy traveled with their fifth wheel camper. They spent several summers in New Mexico and Minnesota, and time at Inks Lake State Park as camp hosts before settling the trailer in Rockport. Bill loved fishing along the Texas Coast and spent many happy hours with family and friends on the water. He was a proud supporter of the Coastal Conservation Association.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathy Reed, his son Randy Reed, and his brother Don Reed. He is survived by son, Rhett Reed and wife, Theresa; daughter Robbe Sebesta; daughter-in-law Cindi Reed; grandchildren Alexandra Reed, Jones Reed and his wife, Meghan; Jacob, Jonathan, Misha, and Zachary Sebesta; Brad Reed, Stephanie Coleman and her husband Brent; great grandchildren, Camille, Cora Lee, and Cayson Coleman.
The family would like to thank all of Bill's friends and caregivers that helped him so much through his later years.
A private family service will be held in his memory.
In lieu of flowers Bill had requested for any honorarium to be sent to a cancer charity of your choice.
