Stallard "Wayne"
Bradford
Sep 15, 1934 — Sep 2, 2021
Stallard "Wayne" Bradford peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 86. Stallard "Wayne" Bradford was born on September 15, 1934 in Wichita Falls, TX to Stallard Harris Bradford and Ramia Lee Moore. He grew up primarily in Haskell, TX, with his mother and stepfather, Byron Frazier. He was also very close to his extended family on his mother's side, spending lots of time with his maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who lived in Munday, Haskell, and the surrounding area. He attended Haskell Church of Christ and was involved in Haskell schools, sports, hunting and fishing as a boy and young man. His classmates in Haskell were his lifelong friends. He enjoyed adventures after high school with his good friends from Haskell. He participated in many class reunions with his Haskell High classmates through the years. Wayne married Britta Kaye Denton in Merkel, TX, on February 15, 1957. She preceded him in death in 2013 after 55 years of marriage.
Wayne lived in many different places over the years including Abilene, Midland, Grand Prairie, Dallas, Chicago, Oklahoma City, The Colony and, most recently, San Antonio. He was a Texan through and through. He loved all things about living in the Lone Star State, especially true Texas Barbecue!! Wayne worked in many fields during his life, but he always could be found gardening and landscaping in his free time. He enjoyed passing on his love and knowledge of gardening to his children and grandchildren. He continued an independent and active life of gardening well into his 80s. He moved to the Landon Ridge independent living community in San Antonio in 2017, where he was very involved and made many dear friends. He spent the last few years of his life gardening, serving on many committees at Landon Ridge, and helping to start a recycling program for the community.
Wayne is survived by three children, Bronwyn Bradford of Wichita Falls, Sterling Bradford of McKinney, and Tiffany Leslie (and son-in-law Jeff Leslie) of Helotes; ten grandchildren: Donica, Ryan, Jennifer, Sanders, Alysa, Carter, Jefflin, Leyton, Nia and Lydia; as well as great-grandchildren, cousins and other relatives. Wayne fought a difficult and brave battle with esophageal cancer during the last few months of life. He moved to Heritage Creek Assisted Living in San Antonio while he underwent radiation therapy. The owner and staff of Heritage Creek Assisted Living gave him the most careful and compassionate attention during this time. Wayne was pleased to visit with his children and grandchildren in his last days. It was Wayne's request that his family, friends and loved ones remember him "as they remember him". Wayne donated his body to science through the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. His remains will be cremated and scattered according to his wishes at a later date. The immediate family will celebrate "Papa's" life with a private family memorial service. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice in Wayne's name.
