Obituary

Richard James Boyle II passed away on February 7, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.

Born November 17, 1966, in Groton, Connecticut, Rick moved with his family to Pleasanton in 1978. Though not born there, it always felt as if he were a native son. Pleasanton shaped him, and in many ways, he helped shape it right back through his steady presence, loyalty, and service.

Rick was a humble family man who loved everyone. He was a caring and giving person who never boasted about his own accomplishments, instead shining the light on the achievements of his family and friends. He carried quiet strength, deep loyalty, and a heart that made room for everyone.

He graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1985. During his youth, Rick was a Boy Scout who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He earned a black belt in karate and was an avid bowler, participating in local bowling leagues in Pleasanton. In high school, he lettered in football his junior and senior years and was also a proud member of the high school band.

Rick attended Texas A&M University–Galveston and Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi before entering the United States Navy in 1988, serving honorably until 2008.

He married the love of his life, Kim Paradie, on April 25, 1992. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and laughter.

Rick proudly served his country, deploying during Desert Shield and Desert Storm and in support of operations connected to Enduring Iraqi Freedom. Throughout his distinguished military career, he earned numerous honors and commendations, including:

Global War on Terrorism Medal
Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal
Sea Service Deployment Ribbons (8)
National Defense Medals (2)
Navy "E" Ribbon
Navy Unit Commendations (2)
Joint Meritorious Unit Awards (2)
Armed Forces Service Medal
Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medals
NATO Medals (2)
Joint Service Achievement Medals (2)
Afghanistan Campaign Medal
Korean Defense Service Medal
Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal
Humanitarian Service Medal
Kuwait Liberation Medal
Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist
Master Training Specialist
Pistol Shot Marksmanship
Rifleman Marksmanship

Though his list of accomplishments was long and distinguished, Rick rarely spoke of them. His pride was always reserved for others.

After his military service, Rick continued protecting and serving through contractor work. He worked with a UAV program clearing IEDs prior to convoy travel and most recently contributed to a program designing and building tactical vehicles for the Taiwan Government.

Of all the roles Rick carried, his greatest joy was being a husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his grandchildren dearly and treasured every moment spent with them. As a father to Trey, he served as a Den Leader and worked his way up to Scout Master, mentoring young men with steady guidance. He rarely missed an opportunity to support his children, whether cheering Shaughn on in cheer and weightlifting or standing proudly at Trey's football, track, and wrestling events. Rick and Kim were also active in their community, including involvement with Locks of Love and volunteering alongside their children.

Rick also had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to laugh and had a way of making others laugh right along with him. His quick wit and easy smile brought warmth and light to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mabel Elizabeth "Nana" Boyle; his father, Richard James Boyle; his mother, Shirley Jean Boyle; his father-in-law, Richard Lewis Paradie; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his devoted wife, L. Kim Boyle; his daughter, Shaughn Noel Boyle; his son, Richard (Trey) James Boyle III; and his cherished grandchildren, Kyler James Boyle and Rhett Matthew Haynes. He is also survived by his brother, Joey Boyle and wife Mistie Boyle, along with their children Bailey and Brady Boyle; his sister-in-law, Valentina Pita and husband Patrick Pita; many bonus dads and moms who lovingly adopted Rick as their own; and many bonus children whom Rick and Kim embraced along the way.

Rick lived a life defined by service, loyalty, humility, love, and joy. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.
