Panagiotis "Pete" Velentzas, passed away peacefully Monday, July 18, 2022, at the age of 86 surrounded by loving family.

He is survived by his wife Efstathia, son John and his wife Melissa, daughter Eirene and her husband Michael Bailey, and six grandchildren: Alexis, Patrick, Megan, Justin, Clayton, and Kristen.

Panagiotis was born in Greece in 1936. He married the love of his life, Efstathia, on December 26, 1970. He brought his family to the United States in 1985, where he started working with the Lorenzo family at their family restaurant. In 1987, he pursue the "American Dream" by opening   "John the Greek" Restaurant located in San Antonio, Texas. Panagiotis also branded his own Greek salad dressing that is used in the restaurant and distributed by H.E.B. stores.

Panagiotis was a loving man who always placed family and God first in his daily life.  Throughout his life he was always an active participant in the Greek Orthodox Church by donating his time and resources. Besides spending time at the restaurant and making salad dressing, Panagiotis had a passion for writing articles which were published in many newspapers throughout his lifetime.  Other pass times included reading, gardening, fishing, and taking care of his chickens and his cat, Sophia.

Panagiotis will be truly missed by family and friends; however, we have comfort knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in heaven.  Probably toasting with a splash of ouzo.

In lieu of flowers, Panagiotis requested your donations to be sent to the Holy Archangels Greek Monastery.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at noon.
