Maxine Bouchonville, "Grandma B", 90, of San Antonio, formerly of Palatine, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28th, 2023, at home with her family by her side, after a long battle with dementia. As a gift for others to learn, she donated her body to the UT Body Donation Program. A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Roseville, IA, and will take place at a later date.

Maxine Estella Bouchonville (Schmitt) was born September 6, 1932, in Marble Rock, Iowa, the daughter of George and Estella (Grace) Schmitt. She received her education in rural schools until leaving for college. She graduated from Loras College of Nursing in Dubuque, IA. and received her RN License in 1953.  She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the College of St. Francis in 1982. She was employed at Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, IL, until moving to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. She worked as a Post-Surgical Nurse, Rehab Nurse, Hospice Nurse, as well as many other positions during her tenure until her retirement.

Maxine was an active member at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, participating in the Bereavement Ministry, Ministry of Care, Golden Villanovans, St. Thomas Choir, and the Woman's Guild. She volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, assisting with Troop 457 at Little City in Palatine, as well as others. She provided food for the PADS shelters and crocheted mattress pads for the homeless. She volunteered in the kindergarten programs at Paddock Grade School and Holy Family Parish, helping in any way she could. She loved giving each student she worked with a crocheted bookworm. Her passion for crocheting and cooking were gifted to many and will not be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her children Baby Bouchonville and Sharon (Coale), her parents George and Estella Schmitt, her brothers Richard and Fr. Philip Schmitt and sister Lori (Goszczynski). She is survived by her daughters, Denise (Scott) Hemenway, Jean (Chris) Crews, and her son Andrew (Sharon), 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, her brother Marvin (Sue) and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many, but her legacy will live on through her love, giving, and many contributions to others throughout her life.
