Mary Sheila
Aymes
Nov 22, 1959 — Nov 21, 2023
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Mary "Sheila" Aymes entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 63.
Sheila was born at Tachikawa Air Base Japan on November 22, 1959, to the late Wilburn "Frank" and Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Franklin, a retired Technical Sergeant US Air Force and a homemaker respectively.
She was blessed with a loving family, marrying her best friend and the love of her life, Gary Aymes on April 5, 1980, in Galveston, Texas. She helped raise their two children with love, patience, discipline, and humility. She was an educator at heart and a true follower of Christ. She enjoyed working with children as a Kids Day Out teacher at St. Brigid where she also served as the first director of their ladies' ACTs retreat. At St. Brigid, Sheila also served as a greeter, Eucharistic minister, and a member of a small faith group. She was actively involved in her family's lives, serving as a Girl Scout leader, a member and President of the PTA, a volunteer Librarian at St. Anthony's Catholic High School, helping with the St. Brigid youth events and retreats, and a member of the band boosters among other things. Sheila loved being an active part of the community. She made special friends through the San Antonio Amputee Foundation and enjoyed special friendships with her support group. Together, Gary and Sheila loved being a family. They would spend time outdoors, camping, traveling, and cooking. Sheila had a joyful heart and will be greatly missed by all those who love her.
Sheila was preceded in her death by her parents and her sisters Vickie Lynn and Mary Juliette. Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 43 years Gary, son Paul, daughter Kelly (fiancé Alvin), sister Tricia Navarro (Jeff) and grandchildren Ciaran, Tristan, and Adley; nieces Wendi (John), Misty (Brian), and Lauren (Ty) and nephew Justin (Cheyene), along with great-nieces, Jordanna, Kimmie, Emersyn, and Wrenlee and great-nephews, Niklas, Skylar, Bradley, Stetson, and Sawyer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, December 6th, at St. Brigid Catholic Church.
