Maria (Velia) Aguinaga Rivera, born on February 12th, 1948 in San Antonio Texas, passed away peacefully on February 29th, 2024. Maria is survived by her children, sons: Marcelino Jr. Rivera and Oscar Rivera, and daughters: Sonia R. Mata and Lisa R. Martinez, and brothers: David Aguinaga and Francisco Aguinaga. Maria is preceded in death by her daughter: Amy R. Ruiz, Brothers: Jose Aguinaga and Sisters: Belen Ramos and Dora Sanchez.

Maria was known for her boundless creativity and caring spirit. She loved Easter eggs and made them all year round. She was deeply involved in various charitable organizations such as the Altar Society, Senior Ministry, Food Bank Christmas contributions, and Senior Ministry bingo prize contributions at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She also had a very fulfilling career working for Family Services Association, working there for 10 years as a Facility Customer Support.

Maria's family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, and not by the sadness of her passing. She is leaving behind the legacy of 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She was known for her collection of puzzles and (Peanuts) Snoopy. Maria brought joy to the lives of many people and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A private ceremony will be held at Southside Funeral Home (6301 S. Flores St,78214) on Thursday, March 7th, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, with a Rosary being held from 6-7pm. Mass will be held the following day on Friday, March 8th from 10:00am- 11:00am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (1114 Willow, 78208)

Flowers and memorial gifts are welcome but not necessary.
