Obituary

Jack Wright, our family’s beloved patriarch, passed away from natural causes on September 1, 2026, at Franklin Park Alamo Heights, his residence in San Antonio, Texas. He was 93. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Wright. He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Rancone, Sharon Wright, and Sandi Richardson; his son-in-law, Jon Richardson; his granddaughters, Natasha Rancone Stringer and her husband, Corey, and Alisha Rancone Parks and her husband, Alex; and his oldest and dearest friend of 89 years, Donald Drummond. Although we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with Elizabeth, the love of his life and his wife of 65 years. They were happiest together, and now they are together again with God.

Jack was born in Midland, Texas, on November 12, 1932. Growing up during World War II, he developed a keen interest in U.S. military ships, aircraft, and strategy. He spent hours collecting, drawing, and studying articles about the unfolding war. His fascination with drawing military aircraft eventually led him to pursue studies and a career in graphic arts, fine arts, and architecture.

Throughout his life, Jack demonstrated a deep sense of discipline and unwavering loyalty to his country, his family, and his faith in God. After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, Jack volunteered for the U.S. Naval Reserve and attended the U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School. He earned the rank of Commander, U.S. Naval Reserve. He then pursued a master’s degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Jack had many interests, including sports, music, and travel, but the arts were his greatest passion. He enriched our lives with beautiful paintings, illustrations, and sculptures inspired by Texas landscapes, his travels, and the world around him. Though he rarely spoke of his accomplishments, he created an impressive and prolific body of work in graphic design, restoration, and painting.

Jack held a quiet faith in God that was deep and unwavering. He inspired in us the importance of integrity, love of family, and empathy through his actions. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where he met and married his wife in 1960. Together they built lifelong friendships within their Christian community. In their later years they shared wonderful memories of friendships and group activities with the KEYS group.

Jack’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Thursday, November 12, at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo St., San Antonio, TX 78205. A reception will follow at the church.

The service will also commemorate what would have been Jack’s 94th birthday.
