Obituary

Evelyn was born on February 26, 1928 in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, NY.  She left this world on May 29th, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn G. Bryan and Terrance E. Bryan, her husbands, Martin Francis Golden Sr. and William Leo Schneider, her son-in-law, Ralph Keeler, her great grandson, Wyatt Keeler, and beloved son, Martin Francis Golden Jr.   She leaves behind one daughter-in-law and five daughters; Mary Golden, Patricia Cody, Maureen Keeler, Virginia Servilio, Lauren Hughes, and Janet Golden, along with sons-in-law Ed Cody, Robert Wainwright, and Tim O'Sullivan. Evelyn was blessed with twenty grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild (with another on the way).

Evelyn Jeanne Bryan was an only child but not a lonely child.  She grew up in a loving home and had many neighborhood and school friends.  She continued living her life, loving everyone she met and making friends throughout.  The love she freely gave was multiplied and returned to her by all those who knew her.

Religion and love of God were the cornerstones of Evelyn's life.  She received the sacraments of baptism, first reconciliation and communion, confirmation, and marriage all at St. Anselm's Parish in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.  She married Martin Golden, one of the St. Anselm's Altar boys who served at mass on a regular basis.  A few years after Martin's death in 1967, Evelyn married a long-time family friend, William (Bill) Schneider who passed away in 2010.  It was her strong belief in God and His promise of everlasting life that helped her survive both her husbands' deaths and the death of her son.  Her rock and her anchor throughout all her years was the Blessed Mother.

Evelyn was an avid reader and writer.  A few years after moving to San Antonio in 2010, she started attending the Bihl House creative writing class. For her 90th birthday in 2018, she self-published an auto biography called "Meanderings" which has provided her family and friends with a look back into many of her life memories.  She lived through many changes in her 97 years to include learning to use a typewriter in the mid-late 1940's to writing her book with the use of a computer and self-publishing on Amazon in the decade following 2010. In fact, it was not uncommon for her to send her family members text messages or make Facebook posts.

There will be a memorial mass in celebration of her life on July 5, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Gerard Church in San Antonio, Texas. Interment will be at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah Twp, New Jersey, on August 30, 2025 at 11:30am.  Evelyn's family thanks the many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and the staff of the Vitas Hospice organization who supported and loved her during the good times and the tough times as well.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to her parish, St. Gerard Catholic Church, 1523 Iowa St., San Antonio, Texas 78203.
