Obituary

Elizabeth Stein Trevino (June 19, 1930-August 13, 2026)

Elizabeth Stein Trevino has gone home to be with her Lord. She passed away peacefully on Thursday morning August 13, 2026, in San Antonio, TX at the age of 96.

She was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts (near Boston) to Raymond Earl Stein and Marian Evelyn Bailey Stein on June 19, 1930. She grew up with a big brother, Richard B. Stein, of whom she always spoke fondly.

As a child growing up in North Weymouth, MA she attended the Third Universalist Church and taught Sunday School to the children. She loved to sing and sang alto in the choir and loved to sing duets with her friend Phylis Frye, a soprano.

She loved the ocean, beaches, lighthouses and seafood. She loved New England and the fall with yellow, red and orange leaves, Thanksgiving, turkey, stuffing and cranberries, but she loved Christmas most of all, as it was celebrating the birth of Jesus.

She graduated from Weymouth High School in 1948 and sang in the choir all four years.  After graduation she began her nursing journey at the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. Soon thereafter, she began work at Quincy Hospital in Quincy, MA starting in the nursery with the babies, then moving to a newly created department, the recovery room.

She married Dr. Hilario Trevino, the love of her life, whom she met while working as a nurse and he was a resident at Quincy Hospital. They wed at St John's Catholic Church, Quincy, MA in 1957. Together they built a life and grew their family to five boys and one girl, living in Quincy, MA, Monterrey, Mexico, Harlingen, TX and finally settling in San Antonio, TX in 1968. There, her husband attended orthopedic surgery training and opened his practice.

Elizabeth loved and enjoyed being a homemaker and doctor's wife. She loved all her children and watching them grow.  She loved to cook and she loved to sew; a skill she learned from the grandmother she adored.  She could whip up a dress, mend clothes or make a costume for a special event, effortlessly.  She was very crafty and creative and made dozens of church banners and window displays for St Paul's Catholic Church and Grace Presbyterian Church.

They were married for 24 years, before divorcing in 1982.  A very sad time in her life, but she persevered.  After the divorce, she learned to drive and went back to nursing and worked for Metro Health, San Antonio, as a home health nurse. She also enjoyed volunteering at Morningside Manor and did so for about 50 years. She was a caregiver by heart, and this always brought her great joy.  She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never remarried, but had a very full life with her family, her church, her friends and her volunteer activities.

She is preceded in death by her former husband, her father, mother and brother; Granddaughter: Sara; Great-Grandchildren: Devaun and August; Nephew: Raymond E. Stein and best friends; Barbara Lee and Barbara Wallace.

She is survived by her Children and (Spouses): David, Noel (Ann-Marie), Eric (Cindy), Elisa (David Jones), Alan (Laura) and Tomas; Grandchildren and (Spouses):  Daniel (Tatiana), Matthew (Emily), Jerre, Amee (Logan Kovacs), Rose (Brandon Carree), Taylor-Ann (Joshua Beltz), Michael (Johanna), Jayme, Kimberly (Austin May), Johanna, Lauren and Christian (Abigail); Great-Grandchildren:  William, Liliana, Azure, Peyton, Kaden, Kendal, Gage, Kai, Milo, Elsie, Henry, Owen, Adri, Magdalen, Vincent, Salvatore, Nicolas and Cecilia.  She is further survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many, many good friends.
