Bruce Biggs
Robertson, Jr.
Sep 9, 1935 — Oct 14, 2021
Bruce Biggs Robertson, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on October 14, 2021.
Respected by the Bench and Bar, Bruce was a long-time San Antonio lawyer whose unpretentious manner and good humor belied a brilliant legal mind.
He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and his law degree from St. Mary's Law School, separated by a stint in the Navy. After he graduated first in his law school class, the Texas Supreme Court selected Bruce to serve as one of the Court's Briefing Attorneys. Later in private practice, he earned Board Certification in Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Bruce was a lawyer's lawyer frequently called upon by other firms and lawyers to represent them or assist them in the trial and appeal of a case. There was no legal matter too complicated or thorny for him – he willingly accepted the challenge of solving the unsolvable and helping those who other lawyers could not help or chose not to. Bruce so loved practicing law, both for the intellectual challenge and the opportunity to impact lives, that any remembrance of him has to start there.
His compassion for others was evident not just in his legal practice but in the life he led. He quietly performed acts of kindness out of the limelight. An inveterate optimist, if there was good in any person or situation, he would find it. He was a voracious reader, a student of life, and the curator of an impressive collection of stories about characters he met along the way. For all these reasons, people loved being around Bruce.
Bruce bettered his part of the world through his relationships and his work. His family proudly shares this remembrance with the community as an example of a life well-lived.
For the record, Bruce was born on September 9, 1935, to Mary Margaret and Bruce Robertson, Sr. He was preceded in death by Eileen, his beloved wife of 52 years, his parents, his stepmother Mary Robertson, and his stepfather, Peter Michael Curry. He is survived by his sister Leigh Robertson Cotton (and husband Lee) of Willis, brother Richard Trosper Robertson (and wife Barbara) of Marble Falls, Sisters Kathleen Curry (and husband Scott Sawtelle) and Terri Peace of San Antonio, brother Michael Curry (and wife Lisa) of Austin, cousin Leon Walthall III of San Antonio and, finally, numerous nieces and nephews (and their children) whose lives Bruce followed with great interest and delight.
The family would like to thank the wonderful folks at Three Oaks Hospice for their care and kindness in his final days.
For those wishing to make a gift in Bruce's memory, please know that he was a devoted viewer and supporter of KLRN, San Antonio's public television station.
