Obituary

He is a Son,

He is their Brother,

He is their Dad,

He is their Grandpa,

He is called Bobby by a multitude of friends.

BOBBY GLENN MEADOWS was born on September 11, 1942 in Waco, Texas as the only child of Keith "Buck" Meadows and Madie Andrews Meadows. Later in life, Madie remarried Sidney Leroy Williams. Bobby grew up in San Antonio, Texas with his two sisters, Nona Raylene and Doretta Ann, and one brother, Ronald Leland. Bobby also had two stepsisters, Patricia Carlile Pyle of Palm Desert, California and Deanna Penland of Portland, Oregon. Bobby's mother instilled the Love of God in Bobby and the importance of placing people above possessions.

In his early years, Bobby traveled a great deal with his military family, with his favorite move being to England where the family lived for three years. While across the pond, Bobby made many friends with whom he had great adventures and made many wonderful memories. As a military brat, Bobby attended many schools until high school when his family returned to San Antonio.

Bobby graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1960 where he excelled in football and basketball. Upon graduating from high school, Bobby earned a four-year scholarship to Trinity University in San Antonio. He took a brief hiatus from his education to try his hand at surveying, but one trip to the marshy swamplands of Louisiana quickly changed Bobby's mind as far as his chosen career path. He immediately returned to San Antonio to enroll at St. Mary's University where he not only obtained his degree in accounting but also took flying lessons to earn his pilot's license. On February 4, 1975, Bobby became a Certified Public Account and built a very successful private accounting practice that continued until December 31, 1986, when he began to pursue other interests with his lifelong friend and fellow CPA, John McCormick, Jr. Over the next three decades, Bobby and John invested in radio stations, real estate, restaurants, and bars around the country as well as in St. Croix.

On a personal level, Bobby was a devoted family man to his wife, Diane, only daughter, Shawn, sons, Kevin and Rick, and granddaughters Lindsey and Caroline. He was adventurous and always enjoyed fine dining and a nice bottle of wine. He was continuously in pursuit of his next good meal. Happily, he brought his family and friends along this delicious culinary journey and would ALWAYS pick up the tab, telling his fellow diners that they could get it "next time." Bobby enjoyed cooking and was the consummate host. His special "Magic Dust" chili and seafood paella are legendary. Bobby made every holiday a celebration, especially the annual Christmas Eve dinner spent with family and close friends. Bobby enjoyed traveling the world with his family, with his favorite trip being to Barcelona, Spain. Bobby was an avid catcher of fish and would take "his boys" (Rick, Kevin and Les) on fantastic annual fishing trips to points far and wide, including the Florida Keys, Alaska and British Columbia.

Closer to home, Bobby was an avid gardener who supported the arts, including the Witte Museum, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the McNay Art Museum, and Crystal Bridges in Arkansas. He sponsored the National Parks and was a supporting member of Trout Unlimited. Bobby was very well-read,  was always curious about the world around him and particularly enjoyed history. Bobby was a quiet, thoughtful, and gentle man who was intelligent, curious, and humble with a wonderful sense of humor. Bobby was a steadfast friend to all and loved all animals.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 20 years, Diane Tegethoff Meadows, his daughter Shawn Marie, his sons Kevin (Laura) of Austin and Rick (Elizabeth) of San Antonio, granddaughters, Lindsey Nicole Locke and Caroline Meadows, his sisters, Nona (Rob), Patricia, Deanna, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. In addition to his two beloved terriers, Marigold and Alfie, Bobby also leaves behind Lucky, a once tiny kitten Bobby rescued from a terrible thunderstorm one late November night nine years ago.

Cremation services will be provided by Olinger Saenz Mortuary Services, and Bobby's family will celebrate his life at a private memorial service. Few things are more valuable than your time. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Bobby's memory by offering a helping hand to a family in need, joining together for a family meal, taking a loved one out for dinner or drinking a toast to our beloved Bobby.

"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this . . ." John 15:12-13
